Research Visits to the Warner Textile Archive Collection Store

The Warner Textile Archive Collection Store is located at the Warner Textile Archive, Silks Way, Braintree, Essex. The Collection Store is open by appointment to individuals who would like to study and research objects, documents, photographs and textiles from our Archive.

What happens on a visit?


Who can book an appointment?
Individual visitors, who are researching through an institution or for personal interest, can make an appointment to visit the Collection.

Access
The Collection is open by appointment only, from Monday to Friday between 10am and 3pm. The Archive is closed on public holidays and Christmas. Please check our visiting pages for updates.

Booking an appointment
To request an appointment, please complete a booking form and email to info@warnertextilearchive.co.uk

Within the booking form you will be asked to explain either the objects, or the area you are researching or interested in. We will endeavour to select a minimum of ten items we feel would fit your requested criteria and prepare them in advance of your visit.

Due to the research invested in each visit, we require a non-refundable deposit for each appointment of £20.

If you need to cancel your appointment we would be grateful if you could let us know as soon as possible so that we can offer it to others.

Please note that Archive staff cannot undertake research on behalf of enquirers.

Charges
Due to the research invested in each visit, we require a non-refundable deposit for each appointment of £20. A minimum charge of at least £50 per visit will be applied, exact costs will be determined upon your receipt of your enquiry form. You will be informed of the charges before a deposit is made.


Photography and photocopying
Photography is not allowed. During your visit, a member of staff will note the items you require imagery of.  Useable, low-resolution images will be emailed after your visit after a ‘Permission of Use’ form has been signed.

If photocopies are permitted, visitors will be charged for any requested.

Arrival
Upon arrival, you will need to provide personal identification which must include a photograph. Acceptable forms of personal identification include:


Coats and bags
Coats, large bags, umbrellas and suitcases are not permitted in the Archive Store. A public coat rail is available at reception.
Food, drink, newspapers and pens are not allowed in the Archive Store.
Please bring a notebook and pencil with you.

Terms and Conditions of Access
The Warner Textile Archive part of a charitable trust, Braintree District Museum Trust Limited, and operated by a Board of Trustees. These terms and conditions govern how the objects are used and how they are represented. By using the Warner Textile Archive you are confirming that you accept these Terms and Conditions of Access and agree to comply with them.

 

We are located at:

Warner Textile Archive, Silks Way, Braintree CM7 3GB

Free parking is available adjacent to the Archive for a limited number of vehicles, and there is plentiful parking available across Braintree at the weekend. Alternatively, we are a five minute walk from Braintree Town railway station and Braintree Bus Park.
